Jamie Lovejoy Arrested After Dog Left Outside Sustained Frostbite

A Stanley, New York man is facing animal cruelty charges after a dog he was caring for was left outdoors overnight during dangerously cold weather and suffered frostbite.

Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 49-year-old Jamie L. Lovejoy on Saturday, February 7, 2026, following a report to the Ontario County Humane Society. According to authorities, Lovejoy left a dog outside overnight in extremely cold temperatures without access to adequate outdoor shelter. Investigators say the dog sustained frostbite on its ears as a result.

The arrest came after a 911 call and a separate report to the Humane Society prompted deputies to respond to the property. Lovejoy, of South Street in Stanley, was charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of resisting arrest.

The dog was removed from the property and is being treated by the Ontario County Humane Society. Officials say it’s expected to make a full recovery. Lovejoy was booked into the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.

The timing of the incident coincided with an extreme cold warning across several Western New York counties, including Ontario County, where wind chills dropped as low as 25 degrees below zero. At those temperatures, frostbite can develop on exposed skin in 15 minutes or less, a risk that applies to animals left outside without shelter just as it does to people.

Court records had not yet reflected a final disposition of the charges at the time of the arrest, and Lovejoy had not entered a plea. As with any criminal case, the charges represent an accusation, not a finding of guilt.

The property would draw further scrutiny from animal welfare officials in the weeks that followed, though that later incident involved a separate arrest and a different individual at the same address.
